Increasing Your Business through Marketing
March 12th, 2011
Most businesses, no let’s make that ALL businesses need to do some type of marketing in order to survive and grow. That has never been truer than it is in today’s global economy. There is so much competition that the average consumer is slapped from cheek to cheek with an onslaught of campaigns looking to catch their attention and separate them from their money. Fortunately doing marketing can be fairly simple and there are many things that you can do to start the ball rolling in the correct way.
First of all, let’s consider a correlation. If you have some designer diaper bags full of baby clothes and some cute baby clothes in there for good measure. Then you set it up on a table and ask for someone’s opinion. In all likelihood people will say you have a nice bag and that is about it. That is because they can not see what is IN the bag. That is a lot like marketing. You can have a web site full of great things that the public is absolutely going to buy like t is going out of style, but if all they see is the website shell then they will likely never get into the web site far enough to see all of that good material.
However, if you market it in the right manner and to the correct demographics, there is no way that you can lose. You can create the demand for your item or your web site by creating excitement about it and the content contained inside of it. That is marketing. The biggest secret is in knowing your target customer base and attempting to reach them without alienating people who might like the product. But if you narrow the target audience too much you can actually lose potential customers that may have considered the item.
We are going to go back to the designer diaper bags correlation once again. If you attempt to market your clothes as only cute baby clothes, then the average mother or father may pass on the clothing assuming that it will be too expensive or that it may make her child look out of place among her peers. However if you market them purely as baby clothes then everyone will come in and look at them and make their own judgment on the clothing. This will allow you to potentially get a larger clientele and a more diverse customer base than you may have gotten by going after strictly the cute market.
Marketing is all about reaching the right clientele base with the right information at the right time. It is definitely worth the effort but if it was an easy task, large companies would not spend top dollar for huge firms to do nothing but market their idea or product. As long as you use a little common sense you should be able to do a grass roots style campaign where you can figure out what you need yourself and start marketing to the world without spending your entire budget.
